I LOST MY 11 MONTHS OLD RELATIONSHIP TO SHOPRITE OPENING IN OWERRI
A confidant brought in this true life story about how he
lost his 6 months old relationship because of the grand opening of Shoprite
shopping mall in Owerri, Imo State. It may sound childish and fictitious but it
is real. For the sake of his privacy, I decided to change his real name in this
story but every other detail of this sad story is true. Maxwell wrote to the
Woman Wrapper because he needed advice and audiences’ sympathy. He would really
appreciate if you could advise him on the way forward after reading this full
story.
Before the 17th March 2016, Maxwell had enjoyed a
healthy romantic relationship with a lady who schooled at the Imo State
University Owerri. He is a civil servant with the Imo State civil service. Although
he had managed to financially keep the relationship from falling into crises, he
never had reasons to complain over his woman’s attitude. Hence he stated making
secret plans to marry the young lady once she had graduated from the
university.
Problem started two weeks before the launch of the new
Shoprite built in Owerri when his girlfriend reminded him of their monthly
outing. Once in a month, Maxwell would usually play a dinner hangout with his
girlfriend but this time, she suggested that they visit the new Shoprite on its
grand opening day. But something went wrong. He was broke and his much expected
salary was not forth-coming.
Maxwell informed his woman about the problem but reassured
her that if situations improved before that date, they would definitely visit
the shopping mall. Initially she did not show signs of worry but later, he started
seeing changes in her attitude towards him. Firstly, she would call him every
day to inquire if he had been paid. Secondly, the usual romantic tone as he had
always known her diminished. The situation continued to worsen until he thought
of a plan to save the obviously dying relationship. Alternatively, he suggested
that they both visited the animal zoo for some sight-seeing should he fail to receive
his salary on or before that day. But what happened that fateful day was to
change the course of events in his relationship with this girl.

Although the lady kept communicating but obviously to know
if he had been paid, she stopped visiting him as the Shoprite opening day drew
near. They had concluded plans to visit the zoo as it became obvious that
Maxwell would not be paid before 17th March 2016. Then it happened.
All his calls and text messages to her went unanswered. Maxwell
got worried and went over to her hostel find out what’s going on. Sadly, he was
informed that the lady just went out with another female friend. He decided to
wait for her until she returned but stayed the whole day without any feedback
from her. At about 6;30 pm, a friend of Maxwell’s called him to ask why he was
not with his girl at the Shoprite that day. Maxwell’s friend who was at

seeing his girlfriend with another young lady and two other young men. What troubled
him most was that his friend informant revealed that the party was obviously
wrapped up in a romance-like position as they shopped massively.
Maxwell could not sleep as he still awaited his girlfriend’s
call even by late night. Early the next morning, he went back to the girl’s
hostel and was just in time to see her holding tight to another young man along
her hostel’s hallway. Shocked but stable, Maxwell gently turned back and left. Surprisingly,
it took another 2 days before his girl would even flash his phone line.
Maxwell needed not be told that she was not what he thought
she was. He truly loves this girl and wishes to marry her but with this
development, what could he do? Maxwell needs your advice as he has been nursing
his emotional wounds since that incident occurred on the 17th April
